SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

Implement end-to-end observability for Spring Boot 4 microservices by integrating health probes, metrics, tracing, and high-performance logging to improve reliability and debuggability in distributed systems.

Core Features & Use Cases

Health and readiness/liveness probes via Spring Actuator for Kubernetes readiness and overall health visibility.
Metrics collection with Micrometer and Prometheus, plus OTLP export to external collectors for tracing integration.
Distributed tracing with OpenTelemetry across services, enabling automatic context propagation and correlation.
High-performance, asynchronous logging with Log4j2 and Disruptor to minimize GC impact in production.

Quick Start

Configure Actuator endpoints, Micrometer metrics, and OpenTelemetry tracing in a Spring Boot 4 application, then verify observability dashboards.

High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema

How do I configure OpenTelemetry tracing in Spring Boot 4 microservices?▼

Configure OpenTelemetry tracing in Spring Boot 4 by setting up OTLP export to external collectors, enabling automatic context propagation and correlation across distributed microservices for end-to-end visibility.

What is the best way to set up Kubernetes health probes with Spring Actuator?▼

Set up Kubernetes health probes by configuring Spring Actuator endpoints for readiness and liveness, providing overall health visibility and proper probe configuration for your microservices across different environments.

How do I collect Prometheus metrics using Micrometer in Spring Boot 4?▼

Collect Prometheus metrics in Spring Boot 4 by integrating Micrometer to capture application metrics, then expose them via Actuator endpoints for monitoring and export to external metric collectors.

Can I use Log4j2 with Disruptor for asynchronous logging in Spring Boot?▼

Yes, you can use Log4j2 with Disruptor for high-performance asynchronous logging in Spring Boot, minimizing garbage collection impact and improving throughput in production environments.

Does Spring Boot 4 Actuator support both metrics and health checks together?▼

Yes, Spring Boot 4 Actuator supports both metrics and health checks together, allowing you to configure Micrometer Prometheus metrics, Kubernetes readiness probes, and overall health visibility within a single integration.
