SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

Structuring Streamlit projects to improve maintainability and reduce complexity by separating UI, logic, and utilities across a clear directory layout.

Core Features & Use Cases

Modular UI: Organize pages and UI components into dedicated modules (e.g., app_pages/ dashboard.py, settings.py) to simplify navigation and testing.
Separation of concerns: Move business logic, data loading, and API calls into utilities and data modules to keep streamlit_app.py focused on presentation.
Scalability guidance: Provide a scalable structure that supports growth from a single-file app to multi-page, multi-module projects.

Quick Start

Organize your Streamlit project by moving UI components and business logic into separate folders and importing them in your main app.

FAQPage Schema

How do I organize a multi-page Streamlit app into a modular project structure?▼

Organizing Streamlit code involves moving UI components into an app_pages directory and business logic into utils to separate concerns. This modular structure keeps streamlit_app.py focused on presentation, simplifying navigation and testing for multi-page dashboards.

What is the best way to separate business logic from UI code in Streamlit?▼

Separating business logic in Streamlit means moving data loading and API calls into dedicated utilities and data modules. This keeps streamlit_app.py focused on presentation, ensuring maintainability and testability across your application.

Can I use a modular directory layout for a small single-file Streamlit app?▼

A modular directory layout works for small Streamlit apps by providing a scalable structure that supports growth from a single-file app to multi-page projects. It enforces dedicated modules and import conventions to maintain consistency as the application expands.

When do I need to refactor my Streamlit code into separate modules?▼

You should refactor Streamlit code into separate modules when increasing complexity threatens maintainability. If your team needs a consistent project layout for multi-page dashboards or reusable components, a directory pattern with dedicated modules improves testability and scalable collaboration.

Why does my Streamlit dashboard code become hard to maintain as it grows?▼

Streamlit dashboard code becomes hard to maintain when UI, logic, and data access are mixed together. Applying a modular structure with dedicated modules for app_pages and utils enforces separation of concerns, restoring maintainability and supporting scalable collaboration.
