SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

💡 This Skill includes scripts (resource) and references (resource) components.

What problem does it solve?

This Skill helps streamline and optimize your engineering platform by reducing cognitive load and enabling self-service infrastructure, making it easier to build, deploy, observe, and operate software.

Core Features & Use Cases

IDP Design & Operation: Design, build, and operate an Internal Developer Platform (IDP) for engineering teams.
Golden Paths: Establish opinionated, pre-built routes for common tasks like building, deploying, observing, and operating software.
Team Topologies: Map platform engineering directly onto Team Topologies (Skelton & Pais) to ensure efficient collaboration.

Quick Start

Start with identifying the single highest-friction pain point and then define the scope of the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) that addresses this.

Frequently Asked Questions about platform-engineering

High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema

What is platform engineering and how does an internal developer platform reduce cognitive load?▼

Golden paths are opinionated, pre-built routes that guide developers through common tasks like building, deploying, observing, and operating software. They enable self-service capabilities by standardizing workflows within an internal developer platform.

How do I start building an internal developer platform using a maturity model?▼

Start building an internal developer platform by identifying the single highest-friction pain point, then define the scope of a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) that addresses it. Assess platform maturity to guide tooling and team structure decisions.

Can I use Team Topologies to structure my platform engineering team for an IDP?▼

Yes, you can map platform engineering directly onto Team Topologies to ensure efficient collaboration. Structuring teams this way supports the operation of an internal developer platform and enables effective self-service infrastructure.

Does this approach require scalable self-service infrastructure for maintainable software development?▼

Yes, this approach satisfies requirements for scalable, maintainable, and efficient software development platforms. Assessing IDP maturity ensures your self-service infrastructure can handle organizational growth and evolving developer needs.

What is the best way to optimize developer experience when operating an internal developer platform?▼

The best way to optimize developer experience is by establishing golden paths and assessing platform maturity. This streamlines the internal developer platform, reducing friction and enabling scalable self-service infrastructure for engineering teams.
