What problem does it solve?

Pricing decisions are often guesswork, leading to misaligned value capture and missed revenue opportunities. This skill guides you through standard pricing frameworks, value metrics, tiering, and monetization strategies to align price with perceived customer value.

Core Features & Use Cases

Pricing research methodology: Van Westendorp, Willingness-to-Pay, MaxDiff analyses to inform price points and tier structures.
Tier structure design: Good/Better/Best frameworks and segment-specific packaging to maximize conversions and LTV.
Value metric selection and packaging: Mapping features to metrics that scale with usage and value.
Example use case: A SaaS startup validates price sensitivity across SMB and mid-market segments and defines pricing for core product tiers.

Quick Start

Draft a three-tier pricing model for a SaaS product with a base price, usage-based add-ons, and an enterprise option.

FAQPage Schema

How do I design a SaaS pricing structure that captures customer value and maximizes revenue?▼

To design a SaaS pricing structure, you map product features to value metrics that scale with customer usage, then validate price points using willingness-to-pay data and competitor analysis to maximize revenue.

What is the Van Westendorp method for finding the right willingness-to-pay price points?▼

The Van Westendorp method is a pricing sensitivity analyzer that asks users to rate prices as too cheap, cheap, expensive, or too expensive, yielding optimal price ranges to inform your tier structures and monetization strategy.

How do I build a Good/Better/Best tiering framework for software products?▼

Building a Good/Better/Best tiering framework involves segmenting your market, mapping features to value metrics per segment, and packaging them into progressively higher tiers to maximize conversions and customer lifetime value.

Can I use this pricing strategy approach for both SMB and mid-market SaaS segments?▼

Yes, you can apply this approach to SMB and mid-market SaaS segments by running specific market segmentation and willingness-to-pay analyses to define distinct packaging and pricing for each target audience.

What's the best way to select value metrics that scale with software usage for pricing tiers?▼

The best way to select value metrics is to identify the specific usage units that grow as the customer derives more value from the product, then map your features directly to those scaling metrics for packaging.

How do I plan pricing experiments and a rollout strategy for new SaaS tiering?▼

Planning pricing experiments and rollout requires defining your new tier structures, setting up tests to validate price sensitivity across segments, and establishing a deployment schedule to launch the monetization changes.
