SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

This guide helps you define and reframe problems to improve decision making by turning vague requests into crisp, actionable problem statements that guide solution exploration.

Core Features & Use Cases

Framing analysis: surfaces current framing, identifies X-Y problems, and highlights gaps between requested outcomes and underlying needs.
Problem statement craft: produces crisp, testable problem statements that separate WHAT needs to change from HOW to change it.
Validation and iteration: captures constraints (hard and soft) and supports quick framing tests to enable iterative reframing.

Quick Start

Provide the current framing and ask for a reframed problem statement.

Frequently Asked Questions about problem-statement

High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema

How do I write a clear problem statement for project kickoff?▼

A clear problem statement separates what needs to change from how to change it, turning vague requests into crisp, testable definitions that guide effective solution exploration during project kickoff.

What is an X-Y problem and how do I identify it in requirements analysis?▼

An X-Y problem occurs when a proposed solution feels misaligned with underlying needs. Framing analysis surfaces current framing, identifies X-Y problems, and highlights gaps between requested outcomes and actual requirements.

How do I reframe a vague request into an actionable problem statement?▼

You reframe a vague request by providing the current framing and applying an iterative validation process. This captures hard and soft constraints to produce a testable problem statement for decision-making.

What's the best way to validate constraints during problem framing?▼

The best way to validate constraints during problem framing is to run quick framing tests. This supports iterative reframing by capturing hard and soft constraints to ensure the problem statement remains testable.

Does structured problem framing work for fixing misaligned proposed solutions?▼

Yes, structured problem framing works when proposed solutions feel misaligned. It enforces a structured problem-statement format that separates the underlying need from the requested outcome to guide effective solution exploration.

When do I need to use a problem statement format instead of jumping to solutions?▼

You need a problem statement format when you face vague requests or an X-Y problem. It enforces a structured definition of what needs to change, preventing premature solution exploration before requirements analysis is complete.
