SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

This skill guides the integration of Firebase Cloud Messaging push notifications into a Django backend and mobile app, providing a complete blueprint with models, views, tasks, and signals to deliver timely updates to users.

Core Features & Use Cases

DeviceToken management for registering and tracking user devices across iOS and Android.
Push notification workflow powered by Celery, Redis, and Firebase Admin SDK to deliver messages for booking status changes and user preferences.
API endpoints and signal-driven architecture that emit notification events on relevant backend events and respect user notification preferences.

Quick Start

Configure Firebase credentials, wire up the Django endpoints, and trigger a test booking update to verify delivery.

Frequently Asked Questions about push-notifications-firebase

High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema

How do I send push notifications from Django using Firebase Cloud Messaging?▼

To send push notifications from Django, you can use the Firebase Admin SDK alongside Django models for device token management and Celery with Redis to process event-driven notification delivery asynchronously.

How do I register device tokens for push notifications in a Django backend?▼

Device tokens are registered by exposing REST endpoints that capture the token from mobile devices and store it using a dedicated DeviceToken model, enabling the backend to target specific iOS and Android devices.

Can I use Celery and Redis for asynchronous push notification delivery with Firebase?▼

Yes, Celery and Redis can be used for asynchronous push notification delivery by offloading the Firebase Admin SDK message dispatch to background tasks, preventing blocking during booking state changes.

How do I manage user notification preferences for Firebase push notifications?▼

Notification preferences are managed through a PushNotificationPreference model and API endpoints, allowing the system to respect user settings before triggering event-driven push notifications.

What is the best way to trigger push notifications for booking state changes?▼

The best way to trigger push notifications for booking state changes is through a signal-driven architecture that emits events to Celery tasks, which then execute Firebase Cloud Messaging delivery.

Do I need a separate model to unregister devices when handling Firebase push notifications?▼

You need REST endpoints to unregister devices and manage the DeviceToken records, ensuring the Firebase Admin SDK no longer attempts to deliver push notifications to inactive or revoked user tokens.
