High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema

How do I quickly understand a new codebase and repository structure?▼

To understand a new codebase repository structure, you can map entry points, data flow, module boundaries, and test surfaces. This creates a high-level mental model for efficient onboarding and planning before starting implementation.

What is the best way to map repository structure and identify module boundaries?▼

Mapping repository structure involves identifying entry points, data flow, module boundaries, and important invariants. This approach provides a concise, reusable repository map to help you navigate unfamiliar code efficiently.

How do I identify risky areas and important invariants in an unfamiliar repository?▼

Identifying risky areas and important invariants in an unfamiliar repository is part of structural mapping. It highlights critical execution paths and constraints to ensure safe onboarding and implementation planning.

Can I use repository mapping to understand test surfaces and data flow?▼

Yes, repository mapping identifies the test surface and traces data flow alongside module boundaries. This provides a high-level view of the structural components and execution paths for efficient onboarding.

When do I need to create a mental model of a repository?▼

You need to create a mental model of a repository when onboarding into a new codebase or needing a high-level understanding of its structure. It helps you understand main execution paths before starting implementation.

What are the limitations of mapping a repository structure for onboarding?▼

Mapping a repository structure for onboarding provides a high-level view of entry points and module boundaries but may not cover low-level implementation details. It is designed for initial understanding rather than deep architectural refactoring.
