SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

This skill helps developers set up and verify Language Server Protocol (LSP) servers for Python and JavaScript/TypeScript to enable autocomplete, diagnostics, and code navigation in Claude Code projects.

Core Features & Use Cases

LSP installation checks: verify pylsp for Python and typescript-language-server for TS/JS are installed and accessible.
Environment verification: ensure Node.js and Python environments are configured correctly, and required versions match project needs.
Troubleshooting guidance: provide steps to diagnose and fix common LSP issues, such as missing diagnostics or autocomplete.

Quick Start

Verify Python LSP: pylsp --help; python --version
Verify JavaScript LSP: typescript-language-server --version; node --version
Validate configuration: test -f .claude/lsp.json && echo "exists" || echo "missing"; python3 -m json.tool .claude/lsp.json > /dev/null && echo "valid" || echo "invalid"

FAQPage Schema

How do I configure a Language Server Protocol setup for Python and JavaScript?▼

To configure an LSP setup, you verify pylsp for Python and typescript-language-server for JS/TS are installed, ensure Node.js and Python environments match project requirements, and validate configuration files like .claude/lsp.json.

What do I need to verify before using a Python or JavaScript LSP?▼

You need to verify your Python and Node.js environments are correctly configured. Check tool versions using 'python --version' and 'node --version', and ensure required servers like pylsp and typescript-language-server are installed and accessible.

Why does my Language Server Protocol show missing diagnostics or autocomplete?▼

Missing LSP diagnostics often stem from incorrect tool versions, invalid configuration files, or inaccessible servers. Troubleshooting involves verifying server availability, validating .claude/lsp.json syntax, and ensuring environment configurations match project needs.

How do I check if my typescript-language-server or pylsp is installed correctly?▼

Check LSP installation by running 'pylsp --help' for Python and 'typescript-language-server --version' for JS/TS. These commands verify the servers are installed, accessible, and ready to provide code navigation and diagnostics.

How do I validate my LSP configuration file for errors?▼

Validate LSP configuration by checking file existence with 'test -f .claude/lsp.json' and confirming JSON syntax using 'python3 -m json.tool .claude/lsp.json'. This ensures the configuration is present and structurally valid for the servers.
