SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

An end-to-end workflow for building, testing, profiling, and shipping a shared SwiftUI app across iOS and macOS, including multi-target setup, dependency management, architecture decisions, and CI/CD.

Core Features & Use Cases

Multiplatform Setup: Create a single project that targets iOS and macOS (and Catalyst if needed).
Dependency Management: Use SPM or CocoaPods, with resolved Package.resolved.
Architecture: MVVM or The Composable Architecture (TCA) for state management.
CI/CD: Configure Xcode Cloud, TestFlight distribution, and automated tests.

Quick Start

Create a multip-platform Xcode project, configure schemes, and set up a basic CI workflow with TestFlight deployment.

Frequently Asked Questions about Shared SwiftUI App Workflow

High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema

How do I set up a shared SwiftUI app for both iOS and macOS in Xcode?▼

Create a multiplatform Xcode project with shared SwiftUI code targeting both iOS and macOS. Configure separate schemes and build settings per target, use SPM or CocoaPods for dependencies, and establish per-configuration environment variables to manage platform-specific requirements and code signing.

What's the best way to structure state management in a cross-platform SwiftUI app?▼

Choose between MVVM or The Composable Architecture (TCA) for state management in multiplatform SwiftUI projects. TCA provides more structured, testable state handling for complex workflows; MVVM offers simpler patterns for straightforward apps. Both integrate with shared code across iOS and macOS targets.

How do I set up CI/CD and TestFlight distribution for a SwiftUI app?▼

Configure Xcode Cloud workflows to automate testing and build processes, then route successful builds to TestFlight for beta distribution. Define per-target schemes, environment variables, and code signing certificates to enable end-to-end automated deployment across iOS and macOS.

Can I use SPM and CocoaPods together in a multiplatform Xcode project?▼

Yes. SwiftUI multiplatform projects support both Swift Package Manager and CocoaPods for dependency management. Use SPM for Swift packages and CocoaPods for Objective-C libraries; resolve dependencies via Package.resolved and maintain separate dependency configurations per target as needed.

What debugging and profiling tools work with shared SwiftUI code across platforms?▼

Xcode's debugger, memory profiler, and performance instruments work on both iOS and macOS targets. Debug shared SwiftUI views using Xcode previews, set platform-specific breakpoints, and use Instruments to profile CPU and memory usage across your multiplatform app.

Do I need Catalyst to share a SwiftUI app between iOS and macOS?▼

No. Create a native multiplatform Xcode project with separate iOS and macOS targets sharing SwiftUI source code without Catalyst. Catalyst is optional if you need to run an iOS app on macOS; native multiplatform projects provide better performance and platform integration.
