SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

This Skill helps developers write and execute shell commands that work reliably across Windows PowerShell and Unix-like shells by providing platform-aware command syntax guidance and safe activation prompts.

Core Features & Use Cases

Platform-aware adjustments for common shell constructs (quoting, heredoc, command chaining) across Windows PowerShell and Unix shells.
Clear guidance on when to enable PowerShell-compatible syntax and how to activate it per machine or session.
Use cases include cross-platform scripting, multi-environment CI tasks, and avoiding runtime shell errors due to shell differences.

Quick Start

When prompted on Windows, enable PowerShell-compatible syntax for shell commands and try a simple cross-platform command such as: git commit -m "Title" -m "Body" to create a multi-line commit message.

FAQPage Schema

How do I write shell commands that work across Windows PowerShell and Unix?▼

To write shell commands that work across Windows PowerShell and Unix, you need platform-aware syntax adjustments for common constructs like quoting, heredoc, and command chaining. This ensures safe and predictable command execution in mixed environments.

How do I enable PowerShell-compatible syntax for cross-platform scripting?▼

To enable PowerShell-compatible syntax for cross-platform scripting, activate it per machine or session when prompted on Windows. This allows you to execute commands like multi-line git commit messages safely across different shell environments.

Why do my shell scripts fail with syntax errors in CI workflows?▼

Shell scripts fail in CI workflows due to differences in command syntax and quoting between Windows PowerShell and Unix shells. Using platform-aware command guidance prevents these runtime shell errors by aligning syntax across mixed environments.

What is the best way to handle command chaining differences between bash and PowerShell?▼

The best way to handle command chaining differences between bash and PowerShell is to apply platform-aware syntax guidance. This aligns shell constructs and ensures commands execute safely and predictably across both Unix and Windows environments.

Do I need to modify my shell commands to run CI tasks in mixed environments?▼
