FAQPage Schema

How do I create optimized animated GIFs for Slack from image frames?▼

To create optimized animated GIFs for Slack, you assemble programmatic frames using PIL-based tooling, apply color quantization, and package the output into a Slack-compatible GIF with target dimensions like 480x480.

What dimensions should Slack GIFs and custom emoji be?▼

Slack GIFs should target dimensions of roughly 480x480 for standard messages, while custom Slack emoji animations should be sized around 128x128 to meet platform constraints and display correctly.

How does color quantization improve GIF compression for Slack?▼

Color quantization improves GIF compression by reducing the color palette to essential shades, which decreases file size while maintaining visual quality for quick loading in Slack conversations and product docs.

Can I use PIL to assemble frames with gradient backgrounds into a Slack GIF?▼

Yes, you can use PIL to assemble frames with optional gradient backgrounds and simple shapes into a Slack-ready GIF, applying optional frame deduplication and palette optimization during the packaging process.

What is the best way to validate GIFs before uploading to Slack channels?▼

The best way to validate Slack GIFs is to run them through an end-to-end validation process that checks palette optimization, frame deduplication, and Slack-compatible packaging constraints after assembly.

Are there limitations when creating Slack emoji animations from programmatic frames?▼

Limitations include adhering to Slack's strict file size and dimension constraints, requiring palette optimization and color quantization to ensure the 128x128 animated emoji loads quickly without quality degradation.
