SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

Provides a structured, research-backed workflow for creating feature specifications, implementation plans, and validation checklists so teams avoid vague requirements and missed edge cases.

Core Features & Use Cases

Specification Authoring: Use templates to write user stories, acceptance criteria, and functional requirements with measurable success criteria.
Implementation Planning: Capture technical context, architecture decisions, project structure, and constitution/governance checks to guide development.
Research Synthesis & Validation: Integrate academic and technical research into practical patterns and produce checklists for QA and iteration.

Quick Start

Create a feature spec using the spec-kit template with user stories, acceptance criteria, and a plan for implementation and validation.

Frequently Asked Questions about spec-kit-fundamentals

High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema

How do I write feature specifications that include user stories and acceptance criteria?▼

Feature specifications should use structured templates to document user stories, acceptance criteria, and functional requirements. This ensures measurable success criteria are captured, preventing vague requirements and missed edge cases during development.

What is the best way to turn feature specs into actionable implementation plans?▼

Turning feature specs into implementation plans requires capturing technical context, architecture decisions, and governance checks. This structured planning guides development teams effectively from specification authoring directly into actionable engineering tasks.

How do I integrate research synthesis into product specification workflows?▼

Research synthesis integrates into product specification workflows by translating academic and technical research into practical patterns. This research-backed approach grounds feature specs, ensuring requirements are validated and aligned with proven methodologies.

Can I use checklist-driven validation for feature specs and QA iteration?▼

Checklist-driven validation applies directly to feature specs and QA iteration by providing structured verification steps. This process ensures acceptance criteria and functional requirements are met, validating the specification before and during development.

Does feature specification require governance and constitution checks for implementation planning?▼

Feature specification requires governance and constitution checks during implementation planning to maintain technical alignment. Capturing these checks ensures the development plan adheres to project standards and architectural decisions.

Why does implementation planning fail without structured functional requirements?▼

Implementation planning fails without structured functional requirements because vague specs cause missed edge cases and technical misalignment. Using templates for specification authoring prevents ambiguity and ensures measurable success criteria.
