SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

This skill automates the governance constitution process within SpecKit projects, ensuring the living document stays synchronized with templates, placeholders, and policy constraints.

Core Features & Use Cases

Automatically derives placeholder values for constitution inputs from user prompts or repository context.
Applies changes to .specify/memory/constitution.md and propagates updates to dependent template artifacts.
Provides governance, versioning, and compliance checks to ensure consistency across the project.

Quick Start

Provide the desired principle values or let the system infer them from the repository to update the constitution.

Frequently Asked Questions about speckit-constitution

High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema

How do I automate constitution updates and sync across project templates?▼

Automating constitution updates applies changes to the memory constitution file and propagates them to dependent template artifacts. It synchronizes governance documents by deriving placeholder values from repository context or user prompts.

What is a project memory constitution used for in governance workflows?▼

A project memory constitution serves as a living governance document that enforces policy constraints and template alignment. It maintains standardized principles and frontmatter metadata to ensure consistency across project artifacts.

How do I add new principles to an existing SpecKit memory constitution?▼

Adding new governance principles involves providing desired values or letting the system infer them from repository context. The skill updates the memory constitution file and regates dependent template artifacts to maintain alignment.

Can I derive constitution placeholder values automatically from repository context?▼

Yes, deriving constitution placeholder values automatically extracts inputs from user prompts or repository context. It populates the memory constitution without manual entry by applying governance and compliance checks.

Does this approach handle versioning and compliance checks for governance documents?▼

Yes, this approach handles versioning and compliance checks by validating governance constraints against template alignment. It ensures consistency across the project when synchronizing memory constitution updates and frontmatter metadata.

When should I not use an automated constitution sync for template governance?▼

Avoid automated constitution sync when manual governance review is mandated or when template artifacts lack frontmatter metadata support. It relies on deriving values from repository context, which may not suit highly customized policy constraints.
