SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

Spawn an isolated git worktree for a feature branch so you can work on multiple features in parallel without switching branches. Each worktree gets its own directory with a full working copy.

Core Features & Use Cases

Create a dedicated worktree for a specified branch or for the current branch.
Automatically create and manage the .worktrees/ directory, updating .gitignore and avoiding duplicates.
Validate the target branch exists and ensure the worktree provides access to spec artifacts.

Quick Start

Provide the target branch name or say 'current' to create a worktree for the current branch.

FAQPage Schema

How do I create an isolated git worktree for a feature branch?▼

To create an isolated git worktree, specify a target branch name and the tool generates a separate working directory with a full copy of the repository, allowing parallel development without switching branches.

Why use git worktrees for parallel feature development instead of switching branches?▼

Git worktrees provide isolated working directories for each feature branch, preventing context switching overhead and allowing you to run multiple feature streams simultaneously without stashing uncommitted changes.

Do I need a specific repository structure to spawn a git worktree?▼

Yes, spawning a git worktree requires a valid local git repository with a .specify directory. The tool automatically creates a .worktrees directory if missing and updates .gitignore to manage it.

Can I create a worktree for my current git branch?▼

Yes, you can create a worktree for the current git branch by specifying 'current' as the target, which generates an isolated working directory for your active development stream.

What happens if I try to create a duplicate git worktree for an existing branch?▼

The worktree creation process prevents duplicate worktrees for existing branches, ensuring each feature branch maps to a single isolated working directory and avoiding filesystem conflicts.

What are the limitations of managing feature branches with git worktrees?▼

Git worktree management requires Git installed locally and operates on repositories containing a .specify directory, meaning it does not support bare repositories or remote-only workflows lacking these local artifacts.
