SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

💡 This Skill includes scripts (resource) components.

What problem does it solve?

Render, bootstrap, validate, and operate the Splunk Deployment Server runtime to manage secure, scalable distribution of apps and configurations to Universal Forwarders and Heavy Forwarders.

Core Features & Use Cases

Render DS assets, perform preflight checks, enable the deploy-server role, and validate initial config.
Inspect enrolled clients, server classes, and deployed apps; render high-availability (HA) configurations for fleets large enough to require it.
Coordinate handoffs with related skills (server-class authoring, UF enrollment) to enable end-to-end deployment workflows.

Quick Start

Render the deployment server assets with the render phase, then validate and inspect before applying any live changes.

Frequently Asked Questions about splunk-deployment-server-setup

High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema

How do I configure Splunk Deployment Server for high availability across thousands of Universal Forwarders?▼

To configure Splunk Deployment Server high availability, you render HA configurations designed to manage thousands of Universal Forwarders. This ensures fleet-wide deployment-apps distribution remains resilient and scalable for large on-prem Splunk Enterprise deployments.

What is the best way to validate a Splunk Deployment Server configuration before applying live changes?▼

The best way to validate a Splunk Deployment Server configuration is running preflight checks during the render phase. This inspects server classes, deployment-apps boundaries, and REST health checks to ensure safe runtime enablement before applying live changes.

Can I automate Splunk Deployment Server bootstrapping and REST health checks for on-prem Splunk Enterprise?▼

Yes, you can automate Splunk Deployment Server bootstrapping and REST health checks for on-prem Splunk Enterprise. The automation handles deploy-server role enablement, initial config validation, and ongoing runtime operation for fleet-wide forwarder management.

How do I securely handle credentials when setting up deployment-apps on a Splunk Deployment Server?▼

To securely handle credentials when setting up deployment-apps, the Splunk Deployment Server uses safe, secret-file-based credential handling. This ensures sensitive data within distributed apps and configurations remains protected across all Universal Forwarder clients.

Does Splunk Deployment Server setup support inspecting enrolled clients and deployed apps after bootstrapping?▼

Yes, Splunk Deployment Server setup supports inspecting enrolled clients, server classes, and deployed apps after bootstrapping. You can validate initial configuration and monitor runtime health through REST checks to verify fleet-wide distribution status.
