SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

Structured thinking helps teams organize ambiguous problems, reason clearly, and communicate decisions using repeatable frameworks.

Core Features & Use Cases

Catalog of widely used thinking frameworks (Minto Pyramid, BLUF, MECE, Six Thinking Hats, First Principles, Steel Manning, OODA Loop, Eisenhower Matrix, Socratic Method, Amazon Working Backwards) and guidance on when to apply them.
Supports problem decomposition, memo and proposal writing, and decision support with disciplined reasoning.
Use case: when you need to deliver a clear, structured argument or decision document, apply the appropriate framework to organize content and logic.

Quick Start

Provide a problem brief and apply a chosen framework to produce an answer-first outline.

Frequently Asked Questions about structured-thinking

High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema

What is the Minto Pyramid framework and when should I use it for memo writing?▼

The Minto Pyramid is a structured-thinking framework that organizes memos answer-first, starting with the recommendation, followed by supporting arguments and data. Use it when you need to deliver clear, structured decision documents or proposals.

How do I apply MECE to decompose complex problems?▼

Apply MECE by breaking a complex problem into mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive parts. This structured-thinking framework ensures your problem decomposition covers all scenarios without overlap, enabling disciplined reasoning for consulting and product decisions.

Can I use the Socratic Method and Six Thinking Hats for team decision-making?▼

Yes, both are structured-thinking frameworks included for decision support. The Socratic Method uses disciplined questioning to expose logic gaps, while Six Thinking Hats assigns parallel thinking roles, helping teams reason clearly and organize ambiguous problems.

What's the best way to structure an argument using the BLUF framework?▼

BLUF (Bottom Line Up Front) structures arguments by placing the core conclusion or decision at the very beginning. This framework organizes communication so readers grasp the primary message before reviewing supporting evidence and reasoning steps.

Does this structured-thinking approach work for engineering and product contexts?▼

Yes, these frameworks support problem decomposition, memo writing, and decision-making across consulting, product, and engineering contexts. They provide stepwise guidance and explicit usage rules to organize ambiguous problems and reason clearly.

When should I not use structured-thinking frameworks for organizing problems?▼

Avoid forcing rigid frameworks like MECE or OODA Loop onto highly exploratory or purely creative tasks that lack defined constraints. These tools are designed for disciplined reasoning, problem decomposition, and structured decision support rather than open-ended brainstorming.
