SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

💡 This Skill requires PyYAML, and includes scripts (resource) and references (resource) components.

What problem does it solve?

Developers need a reliable, policy‑driven workflow to build, run, and manage Swift packages without unintentionally invoking Xcode‑managed behavior or test‑focused paths.

Core Features & Use Cases

SwiftPM‑first execution: Detects repository shape, validates Package.swift, and plans appropriate swift build or swift run commands.
Mixed‑root handling: Automatically hands off to Xcode‑aware workflows when Xcode project markers are present, unless explicitly opted‑in.
Resource & Metal support: Provides guidance for package resources, Bundle.module, and Metal artifact packaging, integrating with reference docs for accurate implementation.
Customization control: Allows per‑skill configuration via a lightweight YAML config, while preserving a fixed SwiftPM‑first policy.

Quick Start

Invoke the swift‑package‑build‑run‑workflow skill with a request to build the package in the current directory.

High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema

How do I build and run a Swift package using SwiftPM commands?▼

To build and run a Swift package, invoke this workflow to validate `Package.swift` and plan the appropriate `swift build` or `swift run` commands. It enforces a SwiftPM-first policy, ensuring execution stays within the Swift Package Manager ecosystem.

How does SwiftPM handle resources and Metal shader packaging?▼

SwiftPM handles resources and Metal packaging by providing guidance for utilizing `Bundle.module` and structuring Metal artifacts within the package manifest. This workflow integrates reference documentation to ensure accurate implementation of these resource components.

Does SwiftPM execution work in a repository with Xcode project markers?▼

SwiftPM execution works in mixed-root repositories containing Xcode markers by automatically handing off to Xcode-aware workflows. This default behavior can be overridden by explicitly opting in to SwiftPM-first execution via configuration flags.

Why does my Swift package build trigger Xcode-managed behavior?▼

Your Swift package build triggers Xcode-managed behavior because the workflow detects Xcode project markers in the repository root and automatically hands off execution. To prevent this and maintain SwiftPM-first execution, you must explicitly opt-in using mixed-root flags.

Can I use a YAML config to customize SwiftPM build policies?▼

You can use a lightweight YAML configuration file to customize per-skill build policies. This configuration allows specific overrides while preserving the fixed SwiftPM-first execution policy for validating and running your Swift package.
