SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

Visualize hop-by-hop network paths and analyze routing with ThousandEyes path visualization and BGP details to speed root-cause analysis of performance issues.

Core Features & Use Cases

Hop-by-hop path visualization: displays latency, packet loss, DNS names, MPLS labels, and ISP/carrier ownership per hop.
BGP route analysis: evaluates prefix reachability, AS paths, route changes, and origin validation.
Outage/investigation workflows: supports outages, events, instant tests, and anomaly lookup.
Endpoint diagnostics correlation: links endpoint metrics to path performance for VPN and remote access issues.

Quick Start

Run a path visualization from a ThousandEyes agent to a target and review hop-by-hop results.

Frequently Asked Questions about te-path-analysis

High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema

How does hop-by-hop path visualization help with network troubleshooting?▼

Hop-by-hop path visualization displays latency, packet loss, DNS names, MPLS labels, and ISP ownership per hop to pinpoint root causes of performance issues. This detailed breakdown accelerates incident investigations and outage workflows.

Can I analyze BGP routing changes during a network outage?▼

Yes, BGP route analysis evaluates prefix reachability, AS paths, and route changes during an outage. By reviewing origin validation and routing updates, you can identify if path shifts contributed to the failure.

How do I troubleshoot VPN performance issues using endpoint diagnostics?▼

Endpoint diagnostics correlate endpoint metrics directly with network path performance to troubleshoot VPN slowdowns. By linking local device data to path visualization, you can isolate whether remote access degradation stems from the client or network.

Do I need ThousandEyes MCP APIs to run path visualization?▼

Yes, accessing ThousandEyes MCP APIs is required to collect tests, path data, and anomalies for visualization. The Skill depends on these APIs to retrieve path visualization results and endpoint metrics for analysis.

What is the best way to investigate site slowdowns across cloud and on-prem networks?▼

The best way to investigate site slowdowns is running a path visualization from a ThousandEyes agent to the target. Reviewing hop-by-hop latency and packet loss reveals where degradation occurs across cloud or on-prem infrastructure.

When should I use BGP route analysis instead of standard path visualization?▼

Use BGP route analysis when investigating prefix reachability or AS path shifts, as standard path visualization focuses on hop-by-hop latency and packet loss. BGP analysis helps determine if routing changes caused the outage.
