SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

This Skill removes the need to rebuild Firefox and Gecko subsystem knowledge from scratch by producing a high-signal technical document that an AI assistant can use as context for later coding work.

Core Features & Use Cases

Subsystem Mapping: Identifies the primary directories and related specifications for the requested domain.
Documentation Generation: Produces a structured Markdown guide covering architecture, modules, data flows, event flows, and cross-boundary interactions.
Workflow Guidance: Supports prompt customization, save-location selection, and research-driven output for tasks like feature planning, debugging, spec implementation, and code tracing.

Quick Start

Use the tech-doc skill to generate a comprehensive document for a Firefox subsystem such as WebRTC or WebCodecs and save it to the default location.

FAQPage Schema

How do I generate technical documentation for Firefox and Gecko subsystems?▼

Generate Gecko subsystem documentation by prompting the tool to map directories, research specifications, and output a structured Markdown file covering architecture, data flows, event flows, and cross-boundary interactions.

What is the best way to trace data flows and event flows across Gecko IPC and WebRTC boundaries?▼

Tracing data flows and event flows across Gecko boundaries is handled by generating a structured technical document that captures cross-boundary interactions, architecture, and module relationships for the requested subsystem.

Can I use this to plan feature implementation for WebCodecs or WebAudio in the Firefox codebase?▼

Yes, you can use it for feature planning and spec implementation across domains like WebCodecs and WebAudio by producing a high-signal technical document to serve as context for later coding work.

How does technical documentation help with debugging Firefox Graphics and Layout subsystems?▼

Debugging Firefox Graphics and Layout subsystems is supported by generating documentation that maps modules and cross-boundary interactions, removing the need to rebuild subsystem knowledge from scratch during investigation.

Do I need to customize prompts to document specific Gecko networking domains?▼

Yes, customizing prompts is required to direct codebase research and destination selection, ensuring the seven-section output accurately captures the architecture and interactions of the specified Gecko networking domain.
