What problem does it solve?

This skill addresses the organizational and structural failures that lead to dishonest, simplistic, or ineffective data graphics, moving beyond mere aesthetic fixes to address the root causes of poor communication.

Core Features & Use Cases

Organizational Diagnosis: Identifies if your team suffers from the boring-data doctrine or audience-contempt bias.
Relational Metric Auditing: Provides a quantitative framework to measure the sophistication of your dashboards and reports by calculating the relational-graphic share.
Three-Skill Review Gate: Implements a structural review process requiring substantive, statistical, and artistic sign-off before any data display ships.

Quick Start

Use the tufte graphical competence skill to audit this dashboard for relational integrity and organizational bias.

Frequently Asked Questions about tufte-graphical-competence

High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema

How do I audit a dashboard for graphical integrity and data-ink ratio compliance?▼

Auditing a dashboard for graphical integrity involves evaluating its data-ink ratio and relational-graphic share to identify structural failures. This diagnostic process measures sophistication by enforcing Tufte's principles, rejecting audience-contempt doctrines, and ensuring honest data visualization production.

What is relational-graphic share and when do I need it for statistical graphics?▼

Relational-graphic share is a quantitative metric measuring the sophistication of statistical graphics by calculating the proportion of relational design elements. You need this metric when diagnosing organizational failures in data visualization to ensure your dashboards and annual reports maintain graphical integrity.

How do I fix organizational data design failures in annual reports?▼

Fixing organizational data design failures in annual reports requires diagnosing root causes like the boring-data doctrine or audience-contempt bias, then applying a three-skill review gate. This process enforces substantive, statistical, and artistic sign-off before shipping to ensure relational integrity.

Can I use Tufte's principles to remediate simplistic data visualization in my team?▼

Yes, you can use Tufte's principles to remediate simplistic data visualization by implementing a structural review process requiring substantive, statistical, and artistic sign-off. This approach addresses organizational failures and audience-contempt bias while enforcing data-ink ratio benchmarks and relational-graphic metrics.

Does the three-skill review gate work for auditing statistical graphics and dashboards?▼

The three-skill review gate works for auditing statistical graphics and dashboards by requiring substantive, statistical, and artistic sign-off before any data display ships. This structural review process ensures graphical integrity and sophistication across annual reports and organizational data visualization outputs.
