FAQPage Schema

How do I remove edit boundaries and allow changes across multiple directories in a Claude session?▼

To remove edit boundaries across multiple directories, you can run the unfreeze command to clear the freeze scope set by /freeze. This enables project-spanning workflows without reinitializing the Claude-driven session.

What does an edit freeze do in a Claude-driven session?▼

An edit freeze restricts modifications to a specific boundary within the workspace. The unfreeze command removes this boundary, allowing edits across all directories without needing to restart the session.

How do I unfreeze my workspace to edit files across different directories?▼

You can unfreeze your workspace by running the unfreeze command, which modifies the state file at $CLAUDE_PLUGIN_DATA or $HOME/.gstack to remove the edit boundary and enable directory-spanning edits.

Do I need Bash and Read tools to manage edit boundaries in my session?▼

Yes, the unfreeze command requires Bash and Read tools to function. These tools are used to read and write the state file that manages the editing boundary at $HOME/.gstack.

Can I reapply edit restrictions after removing the freeze boundary?▼

Yes, you can re-freeze the editing scope by running the /freeze command. This restores the edit restrictions, allowing you to toggle between boundary-limited and full-workspace editing.

Why does my Claude session still restrict edits after changing directories?▼

The session restricts edits because a freeze boundary is still active. You must run the unfreeze command to remove the boundary and allow edits across the entire workspace without reinitializing the session.
