SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

Automates the end-to-end upgrade of Ruby projects (and optional Rails) by coordinating the upgrade pipeline: planning, per-phase fixes, verification, and final checks, while keeping a live task list and pausing on verification gates.

Core Features & Use Cases

Orchestrates phased Ruby and Rails upgrades by delegating per-phase execution to fix and verification to status.
Maintains a live task list with progress, supports both fully automated and manual workflows, and preserves checkpoints across runs.
Integrates with existing plan, fix, and status skills to provide a repeatable, safe upgrade path for large codebases and multi-version jumps.

Quick Start

Invoke /ruby-upgrade-toolkit:upgrade with ruby:X.Y.Z [rails:X.Y] to start the automated upgrade pipeline.

FAQPage Schema

How do I automate a Ruby on Rails upgrade across multiple major versions?▼

You can automate a Ruby on Rails upgrade across multiple major versions using an orchestrator that coordinates a phased pipeline. It manages planning, delegates per-phase fixes, verifies status, and maintains a live task list to preserve checkpoints across automated or manual runs.

What is the best way to manage a phased Ruby upgrade for a large codebase?▼

Managing a phased Ruby upgrade for a large codebase is best handled by an orchestration workflow that enforces pre-checks and prerequisites. It delegates execution to fix and verification skills while maintaining a reusable task list that tracks progress and pauses on verification gates.

Can I resume an interrupted Rails upgrade workflow from a previous checkpoint?▼

Yes, you can resume an interrupted Rails upgrade workflow. The orchestrator preserves progress via a reusable task list with checkpoints, supporting both fully automated and manual workflows so you can reuse or regenerate tasks and continue the multi-step phase loop where you left off.

Does the Ruby upgrade orchestrator support manual workflows or is it fully automated?▼

The Ruby upgrade orchestrator supports both fully automated and manual workflows. It coordinates the end-to-end upgrade pipeline by integrating with plan, fix, and status skills, allowing you to control execution pace while keeping a live task list to track progress.

What happens when a verification check fails during an automated Rails upgrade?▼

When a verification check fails during an automated Rails upgrade, the orchestrator enforces a failure protocol and pauses the workflow. It maintains the current progress in the live task list, allowing you to address the issue before resuming the multi-step phase loop.
