SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

This Skill helps product teams move from disconnected, context-free backlogs to a clear, shared visual story map that reveals user workflows, missing functionality, and incremental release priorities so teams can plan meaningful, end-to-end releases.

Core Features & Use Cases

Interactive Facilitation: Guides a workshop-style flow with up to five adaptive questions and numbered response options to build the map step-by-step.
Structured Output: Produces a two-dimensional story map with backbone activities (horizontal), prioritized user tasks (vertical), and three release slices (walking skeleton, enhancements, polish).
Use Cases: Starting a new product or major feature, reframing an existing backlog into a map, aligning stakeholders on scope, and planning MVP slices across workflows.

Quick Start

Run a guided session: describe the product scope, select primary users, and ask the assistant to generate the backbone, tasks, and three release slices for release planning.

High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema

How do I turn a flat backlog into a user story map?▼

A user story map organizes flat backlogs into a two-dimensional visual map with ordered backbone activities horizontally and prioritized user tasks vertically to reveal missing functionality and plan incremental releases.

What is the best way to plan MVP release slices across user workflows?▼

Planning MVP release slices involves organizing prioritized user tasks into three horizontal slices: a walking skeleton for the first release, followed by enhancements, and polish to ensure meaningful end-to-end releases.

How do I facilitate a user story mapping workshop for product discovery?▼

Facilitating a user story mapping workshop involves guiding participants through adaptive questions to define product scope, identify primary users, and generate the activity backbone, prioritized tasks, and release slices step-by-step.

When should I reframe an existing backlog into a story map?▼

Reframe an existing backlog into a story map when you need a shared visual representation of user workflows to identify missing functionality, align stakeholders on scope, and establish clear incremental release priorities.

Can I modify the generated story map during an interactive facilitation session?▼

Yes, the interactive facilitation supports simple modification prompts, allowing you to adjust the backbone activities, prioritized user tasks, and three release slices dynamically during the workshop session.

What are the limitations of using story mapping for release planning?▼

Story mapping focuses on structuring user workflows and three release slices, meaning it may not capture detailed technical dependencies or non-functional requirements outside the user journey, limiting its use for purely infrastructure-centric planning.
