System Documentation
What problem does it solve?
Wayfinding fixes the problem of users getting lost in complex spaces like multi-page apps, documentation sites, hierarchical settings, and multi-step flows by strengthening their ability to orient, choose routes, monitor progress, and recognize arrival.
Core Features & Use Cases
- Four-stage navigation support: Designs for orientation, route decision, route monitoring, and destination recognition so users can reliably form a mental map.
- Load-bearing navigation cues: Improves breadcrumbs, page titles, section highlights, stable URL patterns, steppers, and progressive context so “you are here” becomes unambiguous.
- Recovery when users get lost: Uses search and clearly defined recovery paths when wayfinding fails, including for 404s, error states, and support entry points.
Use case examples include auditing a docs site where users search for “where is X,” redesigning a settings IA where people can’t find what they changed last week, and structuring a wizard/checkout flow so users always know which step they’re on and what comes next.
Quick Start
Use the wayfinding skill to audit navigation and fix why users can’t reliably orient, choose the right path, monitor progress, and recognize they arrived in your multi-page product.
