What problem does it solve?

This Skill solves flat, unconvincing character writing by engineering psychological depth through the want/need split, a formative wound, a dominant defence mechanism, and a defining contradiction that produces specific, scene-ready behavior.

Core Features & Use Cases

  • Want vs. Need mapping: Differentiates what the character pursues from what would actually fulfil them, creating internal conflict that drives an arc.
  • Wound and operating-belief design: Turns backstory into a governing belief that explains how the character interprets the world.
  • Defence mechanism selection: Identifies a primary behavioural pattern (e.g., avoidance, aggression, people-pleasing, controlling behaviour) that shows up in conflict, intimacy, failure, and threat.
  • Contradiction and arc endpoint definition: Produces tension the character holds simultaneously and specifies what must change internally for resolution.
  • Use case: When a character feels like a list of adjectives, use this Skill to generate a detailed profile with behavioural tells you can directly write onto the page.

Quick Start

Generate a character profile by providing your character’s current stated goal and what problem you feel they’re not solving in the story.
