SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

Getting a second opinion from Grok or searching X/Twitter normally requires leaving your current GPT conversation and switching tools. This Skill lets a GPT-led Codex session call Grok as a read-only external advisor and run native X keyword searches while keeping GPT as the controlling model.

Core Features & Use Cases

  • Second Opinions and Reviews: Use ask_grok, review_with_grok, and challenge_with_grok to get independent answers, draft reviews, and adversarial stress-tests of claims.
  • Native X Search with Timestamp Verification: search_x_with_grok runs the official Grok CLI x_search first, decodes Snowflake IDs from status URLs into UTC and local timestamps, and filters results to a fixed date or rolling hour window.
  • Safety-Gated Fallback Chain: Only explicit account quota exhaustion triggers anonymous FxTwitter, and OpenCLI/xreach read-only fallbacks require explicit current-task authorization; login, network, and permission errors stop the chain instead of silently falling back.
  • Use Case: Ask for 20 recent AI industry posts on X for a specific date in Asia/Shanghai; the Skill runs multiple disjoint search buckets, deduplicates by tweet_id, verifies timestamps, and returns only posts inside the requested window.

Quick Start

Use yichen-grok-consult to search X for AI product announcements from yesterday and give me Grok's second opinion on my summary.

FAQPage Schema
How do I search X posts from a specific date using Grok?

Call search_x_with_grok with the date in YYYY-MM-DD format and an IANA timezone such as Asia/Shanghai. The tool runs the official Grok CLI native x_search, decodes timestamps embedded in status IDs, and returns only posts matching that calendar day.

How can I get a second opinion from Grok without switching models?

Use ask_grok, review_with_grok, or challenge_with_grok to send a focused prompt to the official Grok CLI while GPT remains the controlling model. Grok's response is treated as untrusted advisory text that GPT evaluates and synthesizes.

Does Grok X search fall back to other tools when it fails?

Only explicit account quota exhaustion triggers the anonymous FxTwitter route, and OpenCLI or xreach fallbacks additionally require explicit current-task authorization with allow_authenticated_fallback=true. Login errors, timeouts, and network failures stop the chain rather than silently falling back.

Can Grok consult access my local files or execute commands?

No. The tools run in an isolated environment under ~/.grok/grok-consult with only native x_search, web_search, and web_fetch allowed. Grok has no access to your project files, shell tools, browser state, or conversation history, and its output is never executed.

Why are some X posts excluded from my search results?

Posts are excluded when the timestamp decoded from their Snowflake status ID falls outside the requested date or hour window. The Skill never fabricates links or moves out-of-window posts into the results, so fewer matches are returned as-is.
