SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

💡 This Skill requires youtube-transcript-api, and includes scripts (resource) and references (resource) components.

What problem does it solve? Manually watching long YouTube videos to capture key points is time-consuming, and repurposing video content into written formats requires tedious transcription work. This Skill fetches the transcript of any YouTube video and transforms it into structured written content. ## Core Features & Use Cases - Transcript Extraction: Fetch transcripts from any standard YouTube URL, short link, shorts, embeds, live links, or a raw video ID, with optional timestamps and language selection. - Content Transformation: Convert transcripts into chapters, summaries, chapter summaries, Twitter/X threads, blog posts, or timestamped quotes. - Long Video Handling: Automatically chunk transcripts over 50K characters with overlap, summarize each chunk, and merge results. - Use Case: A user shares a 45-minute conference talk link and asks for a summary plus a Twitter thread; the Skill fetches the transcript, validates it, and produces both outputs with accurate timestamps. ## Quick Start Summarize this YouTube video and give me a timestamped chapter list: https://youtube.com/watch?v=VIDEO_ID

FAQPage Schema
How do I get a transcript from a YouTube video in Python?▼

How to summarize a YouTube video without watching it?▼

Fetch the video transcript with the helper script using --text-only --timestamps, then transform it into a summary, chapters, thread, or blog post. Transcripts over 50K characters are split into overlapping chunks, summarized individually, and merged.

Can I fetch YouTube transcripts in a specific language?▼

Yes, pass a comma-separated language list with --language, such as tr,en, to set a fallback chain. If no matching language exists, retry without the flag to fetch any available transcript and note the actual language.

What dependency is required for youtube-transcript-api?▼

Install youtube-transcript-api with uv pip install youtube-transcript-api so it lands in the same environment that runs the script. The script is compatible with youtube-transcript-api v1.x and its FetchedTranscriptSnippet objects.
