SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

💡 This Skill includes references (resource) components.

What problem does it solve?

Helps organizations balance resource demand with available capacity to prevent over-allocations and enable efficient scheduling.

Core Features & Use Cases

Resource leveling to resolve over-allocations while preserving dependencies and deadlines.
Resource smoothing to optimize resource usage within allowable float.
What-if scenario analysis to compare allocation strategies and quantify impacts on schedule, cost, and risk.
Use Case: PMO portfolio optimization across teams to rebalance workloads and improve delivery cadence.

Quick Start

Run /pm:resource-optimization with your schedule and resource plan to generate an optimized allocation and what-if comparison.

Frequently Asked Questions about apex-resource-optimization

High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema

How do I resolve resource over-allocations in my project schedule?▼

Resource leveling resolves over-allocations by balancing demand with available capacity, delaying tasks while preserving dependencies and deadlines. This optimization prevents team burnout and ensures efficient scheduling across single-project and multi-project contexts.

What is the difference between resource leveling and resource smoothing?▼

Resource leveling resolves over-allocations by adjusting task start dates to respect capacity limits. Resource smoothing optimizes resource usage within allowable float, meaning task dates shift only if they do not impact the overall project deadline.

How do I run what-if scenario analysis for capacity planning?▼

Run what-if scenario analysis by inputting your schedule baseline and resource plan to compare allocation strategies. This quantifies impacts on schedule, cost, and risk, outputting optimized schedules, before/after histograms, and scenario comparisons.

Can I use this for multi-project portfolio optimization across teams?▼

Yes, this handles multi-project contexts for PMO portfolio optimization across teams. It rebalances workloads and improves delivery cadence by applying leveling and smoothing against shared resource calendars and available capacity.

What inputs do I need to generate an optimized resource schedule?▼

You need a resource plan, a schedule baseline, and resource calendars as inputs. The tool outputs an optimized schedule, before/after histograms, and scenario comparisons based on those provided inputs.
