SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve? Product teams often redo competitive research from scratch, ignoring the intelligence already scattered across user interviews, sales notes, churn data, and past analyses. This Skill checks your workspace first, identifies real knowledge gaps, and only then fills them with web research, producing decision-ready strategic reports. ## Core Features & Use Cases - Internal Intelligence Synthesis: Automatically searches user research, meeting notes, PRDs, strategy docs, and metrics for competitor mentions before doing any external research. - Two Analysis Modes: Deep Analysis (2-4 hours, full SWOT, positioning map, feature matrix) or Ongoing Monitoring (30-minute monthly competitive check-ins). - Strategic Recommendations: Categorizes findings into defensive plays (close gaps), offensive plays (attack weaknesses), and innovative plays (new market space), with sourced claims and confidence levels. - Use Case: You are losing enterprise deals to a competitor. Run a Deep Analysis to surface what churned customers said, map competitor positioning, and get roadmap, pricing, and GTM recommendations. ## Quick Start Ask the assistant to run a deep competitive analysis on a named competitor using your existing research and meeting notes.

FAQPage Schema
How do I run a competitive analysis with this skill?

Name the competitor and choose a mode: Deep Analysis for comprehensive one-time research or Ongoing Monitoring for monthly check-ins. The skill first scans your workspace for existing intelligence, shows gaps, then fills them with web research and delivers a strategic report.

What internal data sources does competitive analysis check first?

It searches user research files, past competitive analyses, sales and CS meeting notes, PRDs, strategy documents, and metrics for competitor mentions, churn reasons, and win/loss patterns. Web research is only used for gaps not covered by internal intelligence.

What is the difference between Deep Analysis and Ongoing Monitoring modes?

Deep Analysis is a 2-4 hour comprehensive study with SWOT, positioning maps, and strategic recommendations, used for major decisions. Ongoing Monitoring is a 30-minute monthly check-in that tracks competitor moves, feature changes, and win/loss trends over time.

How are competitive research sources validated?

Every competitive claim must include a source, URL where applicable, and verification date. Claims are assigned confidence levels: High for primary sources like official announcements, Medium for reviews and news, and Low for speculation or rumors.

Where are competitive analysis reports saved?

Deep Analysis outputs go to outputs/research-synthesis/competitor-analysis-[name]-[date].md and can be moved to context-library/research when finalized. Monthly monitoring updates are saved as competitive-intel-[month].md in the same folder.
