What problem does it solve?

This Skill solves user resistance and backlash caused by introducing novelty too abruptly by leveraging the exposure (mere-exposure) effect—repeated, low-friction exposure that increases liking and reduces perceived risk.

Core Features & Use Cases

  • Familiarity-building for users: Use consistent, repeatable encounters (design patterns, brand elements, terminology) so users develop comfort and trust before judgment.
  • Safer redesign planning: Manage how users experience change by reducing relearning costs, smoothing transitions, and preserving partial familiarity.
  • Onboarding and habit formation: Increase acceptance by repeatedly presenting the right information and interactions in non-threatening, gradual ways.
  • Brand and product consistency: Compound preference over time via stable visual identity (logos, typography, UI conventions) rather than frequent disruptive changes.
  • Evaluation and rollouts: Diagnose whether complaints are driven by familiarity loss rather than actual design quality problems, then adjust rollout strategy.

Quick Start

Apply the exposure effect to a design change by explaining what existing familiarity users have, what novelty is being introduced, and a stepwise rollout plan that repeatedly re-encounters the new experience in low-pressure contexts.
