SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve? Coordinating incident response across on-call rotations, paging, escalation policies, and incident tracking requires juggling multiple Datadog APIs and UIs, which slows down response during outages. ## Core Features & Use Cases - On-Call Management: Create and update on-call schedules, escalation policies, team routing rules, and notification channels (SMS, phone, email, Slack). - Paging & Escalation: Send high or low urgency pages to teams or users, then acknowledge, escalate, or resolve them. - Incident Tracking: List and filter incidents by state or severity, and retrieve full incident details. - Use Case: During a production outage, page the platform team, check who is on-call, track the active incident, and open a tracking case via the delegated case-management agent. ## Quick Start Ask the agent who is currently on-call for your team and to page them about the production database issue.

FAQPage Schema
How do I check who is on-call in Datadog?

Run pup on-call team responders with your team ID to list current on-call users, or use pup on-call schedule who-is-on-call with a schedule ID. Both commands require DD_API_KEY and DD_APP_KEY environment variables.

How do I page the on-call engineer with Datadog On-Call?

Use pup on-call page create with a title, description, target type (team_id, team_handle, or user_id), target ID, and urgency level. High urgency pages notify immediately, while low urgency pages can wait.

What environment variables does Datadog On-Call CLI need?

The pup CLI requires DD_API_KEY, DD_APP_KEY, and DD_SITE (defaulting to datadoghq.com). On-Call operations also use DD_ONCALL_SITE, which defaults to navy.oncall.datadoghq.com, with EU and other regional sites available.

Can this agent create and manage cases during an incident?

Case operations like creating, commenting, assigning, and archiving are delegated to the separate case-management agent, which owns the full pup cases command surface. This agent only invokes case commands when clearly part of an active incident workflow.

Why does creating a notification channel fail in Datadog On-Call?

SMS and phone channels must be verified with a verification code before use, otherwise you get a channel not verified error. Also confirm your API and application keys have on-call management permissions.
