FAQPage Schema

How do I define a north-star metric for a product initiative?▼

To define a north-star metric, establish a primary KPI that best captures the core value delivered to users. This requires inputting your initiative goals, product metrics, and strategy context to align on measurable outcomes for tracking success.

What is a metric tree and how does it support KPI tracking?▼

A metric tree is a hierarchy of supporting metrics that influence your primary north-star metric. It provides actionable insights by breaking down broad success tracking into specific leading indicators like feature adoption rate or task completion time.

How do I set up success metrics for a new feature launch?▼

Set up success metrics by defining a primary KPI, such as Daily Active Users, and building a supporting metric tree. You need to provide initiative goals and product metrics to establish a clear measurement framework for the launch.

Can I use this for growth initiatives outside of product strategy?▼

Yes, you can use this for growth initiatives requiring clear measurement frameworks. It applies to any initiative where you need to define a singular success metric and a supporting tree of leading indicators to track progress effectively.

What inputs do I need to create a measurement framework?▼

You need to provide inputs on initiative goals, product metrics, and strategy context. These inputs are required to align on measurable outcomes and successfully build the supporting metric tree for your north-star metric.

When should I use a north-star metric instead of tracking multiple KPIs?▼

Use a north-star metric when you need a singular KPI to align team focus on core user value. It is ideal for product strategy and growth initiatives where tracking multiple unconnected metrics would dilute actionable insights.
