FAQPage Schema

What is a golden path in platform engineering and how does it improve DevEx?▼

A golden path in platform engineering is a predefined, supported workflow that streamlines software delivery. It improves developer experience by providing opinionated, self-service workflows within a developer portal, reducing cognitive load and accelerating time to production.

How do I set up a service catalog in Backstage for my engineering teams?▼

To set up a Backstage service catalog, configure your internal developer portal to implement reference patterns for catalog registration. This registers existing services to establish a centralized inventory, enabling governance and discoverability across engineering teams.

How do I design self-service workflows for an internal developer portal?▼

Design self-service workflows by applying platform engineering best practices to your internal developer portal configuration. This enables developers to independently provision infrastructure and create services through guided, automated paths without manual operations intervention.

Can I use Backstage for architecture governance and service cataloging at scale?▼

Backstage supports architecture governance and service cataloging at scale. By implementing reference patterns, it aligns your internal developer portal configuration to satisfy governance requirements while maintaining a scalable, centralized catalog for engineering teams.

What is the best way to align an IDP with developer experience optimization?▼

Align an internal developer portal with developer experience optimization by implementing golden paths and a Backstage service catalog. This provides structured self-service workflows that reduce friction and standardize development practices across teams.
