What problem does it solve?
Acts as a sharp thinking partner for product ideas, problem spaces, and strategic questions — challenges assumptions, generates alternatives, stress-tests reasoning, surfaces blind spots. Make sure to use this skill whenever the user says brainstorm [topic], think through [product idea], help me explore [problem space], pressure-test this idea, what am I missing about [X], help me think out loud about [strategy], or describes wanting a thinking partner rather than execution. NOT a yes-person — this skill argues, disagrees, and pushes back when warranted. Do NOT use for: writing the spec once decided (use product-management:write-spec), updating the roadmap (use product-management:roadmap-update), synthesizing actual user research (use product-management:synthesize-research), or generating marketing/positioning copy (use marketing:draft-content). Defining characteristic: "exploratory thinking, before convergence on a direction."
Core Features & Use Cases
- Disagree when wrong — if the user's premise has holes, this skill points them out
- Generate genuinely different alternatives — not 5 variants of one idea
- Ask the questions the user isn't asking — the blind spots
- Stress-test assumptions — "what would have to be true for this to work?"
- Naming what's actually being decided — distilling messy thinking to crisp choices
- Outsider perspective — "How would [type of person they don't naturally consult] think about this?"
- Adjacent possible — "What's the smallest version that delivers any value?"
- The one paragraph test — "Write this as a one-paragraph customer-facing pitch. If you can't, you don't yet know what you're building."
