SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

💡 This Skill includes references (resource) components.

What problem does it solve?

Insurers and repairers need a defensible, auditable process to classify damaged vehicles under the ABI COP, ensuring compliance and consistent decision-making.

Core Features & Use Cases

Four-question framework (Q1–Q4) guides categorisation into A/B/S/N based on repairability, structural damage, and reuse potential.
Generates a documented justification aligned with COP, including required regulatory notifications (MIAFTR, V5C, CoD/V860).
References practical considerations for HV batteries, water/fire damage, and catastrophic damage criteria.

Quick Start

Run a damage assessment following the four-question framework to determine the correct ABI salvage category.

Frequently Asked Questions about salvage-categorisation

High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema

How do I determine the correct ABI salvage category for a damaged vehicle?▼

ABI salvage categorisation uses a four-question framework assessing repairability, structural damage, and reuse potential to classify vehicles into categories A, B, S, or N. The process aligns decisions with COP obligations and requires an Appropriately Qualified Person to validate the final category.

What salvage category applies to a vehicle with high voltage battery damage?▼

HV-battery damage requires specific salvage categorisation references within the COP framework to assess safety and repairability. The four-question process evaluates the battery interaction alongside collision damage to determine if the vehicle qualifies as category A, B, S, or N.

What regulatory notifications are required after assigning a vehicle salvage category?▼

Vehicle salvage categorisation requires generating documented justifications and regulatory notifications including MIAFTR entries, CoD or V860 forms, and DVLA notifications. These records ensure auditable compliance with the ABI COP framework for insurers and repairers.

Does salvage categorisation need an Appropriately Qualified Person to validate the decision?▼

Salvage categorisation requires an Appropriately Qualified Person to validate the final ABI category decision. This validation ensures the classification of A, B, S, or N is defensible and compliant with COP obligations across collision, water, fire, and HV-battery damage scopes.

What is the best way to categorize water or fire damaged vehicles under the ABI COP?▼

Water and fire damaged vehicles are categorized using the COP four-question framework that evaluates structural damage and reuse potential. The process references practical considerations specific to water and fire damage to assign a defensible A, B, S, or N salvage category.

Can salvage categorisation handle catastrophic vehicle damage criteria?▼

Catastrophic damage criteria are addressed within the salvage categorisation framework to determine if a vehicle must be assigned category A or B. The four-question process evaluates catastrophic damage against COP definitions to ensure compliant and auditable decision-making.
