SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

When you have one pitch and several journalists at the same publication, sending it to all of them is a visible spray that damages your credibility with the entire outlet. This Skill fit-checks each candidate and ranks them so you approach exactly one reporter first, with a disciplined fallback order.

Core Features & Use Cases

  • Delegated fit-checking: Runs every candidate through journalist-fit-check before ranking, so No-fit candidates are excluded rather than promoted.
  • Comparative ranking signals: Orders survivors on topic ownership, format match, recent story types, staff vs. contributor status, publishing cadence, source-type match, and relationship as a tiebreaker only.
  • Tailoring and fallback sequencing: Produces 1-4 concrete pitch edits for the first pick plus unlock conditions for held candidates, including disclosure rules when moving to a colleague.
  • Use Case: You have a data-story pitch and three named reporters at a trade publication. The Skill researches their last 90 days of bylines, picks the one who owns the topic, anchors the choice to a real article, and tells you when and how to move to the next person if the first passes.

Quick Start

Ask the agent to rank which journalist at a named publication should receive your pitch first, providing the full pitch text, the candidate names, and today's date.

FAQPage Schema
How do I decide which journalist at a publication to pitch first?

Provide the full pitch text, two or more candidate names at the same outlet, and today's date. The Skill fit-checks each candidate, then ranks survivors on topic ownership, format match, story types, and staff status to return one first pick with tailoring edits.

Should I send the same pitch to multiple reporters at one outlet?

No. Colleagues at one publication share inboxes and forward pitches, so a sprayed masthead damages your credibility with the whole outlet. The Skill refuses batch requests and instead returns a ranked single-send with a conditioned fallback order.

Does a prior relationship with a journalist change the ranking?

Only as a tiebreaker between two candidates who are already genuine fits. A relationship cannot promote a Soft-fit over a Fit or rescue a No-fit, and the output states plainly when a known contact is demoted to Held.

What happens if a journalist has no recent verifiable articles?

A candidate with no dated, linked, named article inside the last 90 days is marked Unverified and cannot be ranked first. If no candidate is verifiable, the Skill returns No pick rather than inventing a ranking.

When can I pitch a second journalist at the same outlet?

After the first pick explicitly passes, or after one follow-up sent three to seven days later also goes unanswered. The second email must disclose that you approached the colleague first, and you stop after two people per publication per pitch.
