SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

💡 This Skill includes scripts (resource) and references (resource) components.

What problem does it solve?

This Skill automates the analysis of project velocity and provides estimated completion dates (ETAs) for projects, helping teams forecast timelines and manage backlogs more effectively.

Core Features & Use Cases

Velocity Calculation: Determines project velocity using various methods (simple, weighted, points, cycle time).
ETA Estimation: Calculates estimated milestone completion dates based on current velocity and backlog size.
Reporting: Generates detailed velocity reports and backlog status summaries.
Use Case: A project manager needs to know when the 'MVP' project is likely to be completed. They can use this skill to get an ETA based on the team's historical performance and the remaining work in Linear.

Quick Start

Use the velocity-estimate skill to get a velocity overview for all project milestones.

FAQPage Schema

How do I calculate project velocity and estimate milestone ETAs from Linear backlog data?▼

You can calculate project velocity and estimate milestone ETAs by analyzing historical deep dive documents alongside current Linear backlog data. This process uses multiple calculation methods like simple, weighted, points, and cycle time to forecast completion dates.

What calculation methods are available for determining project velocity?▼

Available project velocity calculation methods include simple, weighted, points, and cycle time approaches. These techniques use historical performance data to determine the team's work rate and generate confidence levels for ETA predictions.

Do I need a Linear API connection to estimate project completion dates?▼

Yes, you need access to the Linear API to pull current backlog information. Estimating project completion dates also requires access to historical data stored in deep dive files to calculate velocity accurately.

Can I generate backlog status summaries and velocity reports for project milestones?▼

Yes, you can generate detailed velocity reports and backlog status summaries for project milestones. This reporting functionality provides an overview of all milestones based on the team's historical performance and remaining work.

What's the best way to forecast timeline completion for a specific project like an MVP?▼

The best way to forecast timeline completion for a specific project like an MVP is to use historical performance and remaining backlog size. This approach calculates velocity and provides estimated milestone completion dates with confidence levels.
