What problem does it solve?
This Skill helps you do an early, structured freedom-to-operate triage that identifies potentially blocking utility patent claims and flags what to validate before launch—without pretending to be a formal FTO opinion.
Core Features & Use Cases
- Claim-chart-first-pass triage: Builds element-by-element first-pass claim charts for the 2–5 most plausible utility patents to show where the product may map and where it may not.
- Scope-appropriate analysis: Limits the workflow to utility patents, explicitly routing design patents and plant patents out of scope and flagging trade-dress as a parallel track.
- Counsel-ready output: Produces a memo with open questions a real FTO study would resolve, a willfulness risk note, and recommended next steps for registered patent counsel.
- Database-aware search flow: Runs a preliminary patent search when an approved patent-research integration is connected; otherwise it proceeds using user-supplied patents and clearly states that no database search was performed.
Quick Start
Use the /ip-legal:fto-triage command and describe the product or feature, target jurisdictions, and timing to generate a counsel-ready triage memo.
