What problem does it solve?

The Hooked Model provides a framework for designing habit-forming products that drive unprompted engagement by mapping Trigger, Action, Reward, and Investment.

Core Features & Use Cases

Trigger analysis: identify internal vs external triggers and own an internal trigger to drive user behavior.
Action design: minimize friction to create the simplest behavior in anticipation of reward.
Variable rewards: combine Tribe, Hunt, and Self rewards to sustain engagement.
Investment strategy: design investments that load the next trigger and lock in users.
Ethics check: use the Manipulation Matrix to ensure responsible design.

Quick Start

Identify the user's internal trigger to own.
Map the Habit Path: Trigger → Action → Reward → Investment.
Design a minimal friction action and variable rewards across Tribe, Hunt, and Self.
Add an investment that loads the next trigger and evaluate ethics with the Manipulation Matrix.

FAQPage Schema

What is the Hooked Model for designing habit-forming products?▼

The Hooked Model is a framework for designing habit-forming products that drive unprompted engagement by mapping Trigger, Action, Reward, and Investment phases to build user retention.

How do I design variable rewards to sustain user engagement?▼

Design variable rewards by combining Tribe, Hunt, and Self reward types to sustain engagement, ensuring the investment phase loads the next trigger to lock in users.

How do I map internal triggers to drive user behavior?▼

Identify the user's internal triggers to own them, map the Habit Path from Trigger to Action to Reward to Investment, and minimize friction for the simplest behavior in anticipation of reward.

How do I ensure ethical product design when building habit-forming features?▼

Ensure ethical product design by applying the Manipulation Matrix to evaluate habit-forming features, verifying responsible design before loading the next trigger via user investments.

Does this Hooked Model framework require specific product management tools?▼

No specific tools or dependencies are required. The solution requires knowledge of the Hooked Model framework and ethical considerations, including the Manipulation Matrix, for responsible design.

When should I not use variable rewards in product design?▼

You should not use variable rewards if ethical checks via the Manipulation Matrix indicate irresponsible design, as habit-forming products must avoid manipulating users against their interests.
