SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

Non-combat resolution can be inconsistent; this Skill standardizes checks, difficulty ladders, and expertise progression to ensure fair adjudication.

Core Features & Use Cases

Resolution model: choose the most relevant stat or expertise based on the declared approach.
Difficulty ladder: predefined tiers to gauge task challenge.
Opposed checks: mechanics for contested outcomes.
Expertise progression constraints: rules for how bubbles and level influence checks.
Adjudication best practices: guidance for consistent outcomes.

Quick Start

Ask the GM to declare a relevant stat and expertise, roll a d20 + modifiers, and compare the result to the target difficulty.

FAQPage Schema

How do I standardize non-combat checks and opposed rolls in my tabletop game?▼

Non-combat checks are standardized by selecting a relevant stat or expertise, rolling a d20 with modifiers, and comparing the result to a predefined difficulty ladder to ensure consistent adjudication.

What is the difficulty ladder for resolving non-combat actions like hacking or investigation?▼

The difficulty ladder provides predefined tiers to gauge the challenge of non-combat tasks. It standardizes resolution for hacking, piloting, social tests, and investigation by assigning target difficulties to various actions.

How do opposed checks work for contested outcomes in non-combat scenarios?▼

Opposed checks resolve contested outcomes by having both parties roll a d20 with relevant modifiers. The results are compared directly, with the higher total determining the winner of the non-combat adjudication.

Can I use expertise progression constraints to balance non-standard adjudication?▼

Yes, expertise progression constraints balance non-standard adjudication by specifying how expertise bubbles and character levels influence d20 check modifiers, ensuring fair outcomes for improvised actions.

What adjudication best practices should I follow for improvised non-combat actions?▼

Adjudication best practices for improvised actions involve declaring the most relevant stat or expertise, applying progression constraints, and comparing the modified d20 roll to the target difficulty tier for consistent results.
